Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.
Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks his maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of 2023.
The win also means he has secured 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
The player's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had caused commentators to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.
He saved 4 initial break points in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, he clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
